How to create a beautiful bedroom on a budget

Your bedroom should be a haven from the outside world; a serene, beautiful space where you can rest and relax. For many people however, it's the last part of the home to be decorated and it often ends up looking a bit dreary and neglected. It's hard to have a great night's sleep in these kind of surroundings; seemingly minor things like mismatched bedding, faded curtains and coffee-stained carpets can create a less-than-pleasant atmosphere and make it harder to relax at the end of the day.

If your bedroom is in dire need of a makeover but your budget is somewhat limited, you might think that improving its appearance simply isn't an option, as redecorating a room is generally a very expensive process. Fortunately, it is possible to improve the appearance of this space without spending a fortune.

Keep it simple

If you want to create a peaceful ambience, a minimalistic look is often the best option. This is especially true when it comes to your soft furnishings and decorative items; bedspreads with busy patterns, lots of ornaments and too many coloured cushions can make any space seem cluttered and chaotic.

Purchase some simple white bedding and curtains; these will give the room a classic, clean appearance. Provided you choose a slightly lower thread-count, plain-dye bedding can often be cheaper than its more ornately-designed counterparts. You can make this type of bedding more visually interesting by incorporating different textures; a ruffled cushion, for example, or a fluffy throw.

If you want to purchase a few ornaments to add some character to the room, be as selective as possible, as these items can be expensive and won't necessarily make your bedroom more aesthetically pleasing. Small houseplants are a good choice; these add a lovely pop of colour and are extremely affordable.

Focus on the floors

When you use a room every single day, it's easy to become oblivious to the state of the floors. However, you'd be amazed at how much of a difference a deep-clean can make to the overall appearance of your bedroom. If you have wood flooring, an hour or two spent sweeping, mopping and scrubbing between the boards should be enough to get rid of all of the dirt and grime that has built up.

For those with carpets, a thorough hoovering and some spot-cleaning to remove splotches should suffice. However, in cases where the stains are extensive it may be worth using a professional cleaning service like Stain Busters Carpet Cleaning; they have specialist machinery and industrial cleaning products which can deliver a more professional result. This type of service is usually very affordable and, when compared with the expense of replacing a badly-stained carpet, is actually very cost-effective.
